How Inclusive Job Design contributes to labour market issues
In 2023, my journey as an Inclusive Job Designer began with the inspiring training from Brigitte Van Lierop. This experience was the cornerstone of my mission: creating meaningful jobs for people who struggle to connect with the employment market.
Together with our enthusiastic Jobteam and in collaboration with Wendy Neyrinck, we made a significant impact. For example, we created 60 new jobs in the childcare sector for the City of Ghent, and there are currently open vacancies to expand with 10 additional positions. Additionally, we created 5 valuable logistical support roles in the nursing homes in Ghent, and Weba Ghent made room for an assistant salesperson in their pick-up department.
In 2024, our impact continued to grow. We developed 7 new jobs as logistics assistants across 5 different care institutions. During the Day of Inclusion, I had the privilege of giving an inspiration session on Inclusive Job Design and we exclusively unveiled a video in which De Triangel shares their experiences. A particular highlight this year was the collaboration with Colruyt Group Laagste Prijzen. Their butchery department was receptive to the idea of creating a new support role. A clear demonstration of how inclusive thinking opens up opportunities across all industries.
The most rewarding part of this work? Seeing the growth and pride of the people filling these roles. Inclusive job creation requires customization, collaboration, and above all, belief in the power of people. I am grateful to contribute to a labor market where everyone matters.
With every new position we create, my conviction grows: inclusive jobs are not only achievable but essential for a strong and diverse society.
